Jay's character, Gary Brooks, is a house painter who's been recently divorced from his wife of fifteen years, Allison (Paula Marshall). They have two kids - Tom Brooks (Ryan Malgarini) and Louise Brooks (Kathryn Newton). Also a part of the cast is Ed Begley, Jr., their marriage counselor turned Allison's fiance, and Dennis Lopez (Al Madrigal), one of Gary's contractors. The crux of the show is comedy, of course, but it does so on the balance between Gary's home life, work, and his new love life, complete with all the bumps in the road. The three-disc set comes complete with all twenty episodes and extras. And if you are fan of Jay Mohr, or just like the movies he's been in, then this show will definitely make you laugh. I not only like Jay's character; Paula Marshall is also good as the ex-wife. Another strong point: the kids. They aren't overly crafted to be masters of comedic timing. They both feel appropriate for their ages and not precocious beyond belief. Definitely one of those shows that will build an audience over time.
