Season two of the critically acclaimed Liftetime show Army Wives picks up right where season one left off - a cliffhanger in which Sgt. George Polarski (Robert Pralgo) blew up a local watering hole known as the Hump Bar. The first few episodes of Season 2 deal with the aftermath of that event. The five-disc set has all nineteen episodes of the show plus some bonus features. Disc1: Would You Know My Name, Strangers In A Strange Land, The Messenger, Leaving The Tribe. Disc 2: The Hero Returns, Thicker Than Water, Uncharted Territory, Loyalties. Disc 3: Casting Ou The Net, Duplicity, Mothers And Wives, Great Expectations. Disc 4: Safe Havens, Payback, Thank You For Letting Me Share, Sacrifices Disc 5: All In The Family, Departures, Arivalls, Duty Calls. BONUS FEATURES: Active Duty: The Cast Of Army Wives At Fort Bragg, Operation Intelligence: Gatting The Army's Support, The Tribe, Army Wives Gives Back, Deleted Scenes, Bloopers. Three episodes come with audio commentaries: Would You Know My Name (Disc 1), The Hero Returns (Disc 2), and Safe Havens (Disc 4). It's obvious that this show will hit home with the wives and family members of our military personnel. But even if you don't have a connection to it that way, Army Wives is still a solid drama with quality acting and sharp writing. Several storylines stamped themselves on this season, such as the pregnancy angle with Joan (Wendy Davis) & Roland Burton (Sterling K. Brown). There was also the stalker storyline with Pamela Moran (Brigid Branagh) that had a quick resolution, and TV veteran Kim Delaney's (NYPD Blue, Philly) character Claudia Joy Holden deals with the loss of her daughter. The show has enough authenticity to make you believe and the right amount of dramatic license used to fuel the emotional conflict, of which there is plenty. Comedic moments peppered throughout even things out. I had to chuckle when Claudia goes out on a "date" with ten-year-old Finn. The soap operaish elements have more bite than bark to them - it's still a Lifetime series, not HBO. But the strong performances from all the actors help elevate Army Wives in its sophmore season. |
