On the heels of popular Disney Channel original movies High School Musical and Camp Rock (and subsequent sequels) comes an exciting new show: Lemonade Mouth . If you have tweens who enjoy music/dancing/drama shows, Lemonade Mouth is a superb addition to your family DVD library.
Five high school freshmen meet in detention. Olivia (Bridget Mendler from Good Luck Charlie), Mo (Naomi Scott), Wen (Adam Hicks from Zeke and Luther), Stella (Hayley Kiyoko from Wizards of Waverly Place ), and Charlie (Blake Michael) decide to join forces and form a band after they hear of the school's intention to move all extracurricular activities to the basement to make room for a new gym. The band plays at school in protest of the removal of the lemonade machine and is forbidden to play at the school again. They begin to play at the local pizza restaurant and soon gather quite a following, continuing to protest the changes in the school, particularly the removal of the lemonade.
The songs in this absorbing and entertaining show are excellent. Catchy titles such as "Determinate" and "Don't Ya Wish U Were Us" will stay with viewers long after the show is over. As with most Disney Channel movies, Lemonade Mouth has some uplifting themes such as standing up for what you believe in and the importance of friends and family. Tweens and teens will definitely relate to the content, especially if they are involved in the arts and have seen those programs be pushed to the side in favor of sports. The extended DVD copy contains an extended music scene, which my own kids really enjoyed, and makes it worth the purchase rather than just trying to catch this show on television.
Lemonade Mouth is a fun movie, excellent for the entire family, with particular appeal for those in the 8-14 age range. Disney continues to produce quality family entertainment, and viewers should be pleased to have Lemonade Mouth as a choice for family movie night.
