Jim Norton hosted a stand-up comedy series on HBO called Down and Dirty . The recently released DVD presentation contains a total of four 30-minute episodes. Most of the featured comedians are well known, including Andrew Dice Clay, Artie Lange, Patrice O'Neal and Bill Burr (who is a person favorite of mine). Fans of Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn may recognize a few of the names on this disc, but be warned: this is no Comedy Central production.
In his introduction, Jim Norton explains his motivation for creating this program as an alternative to the safe, sanitized comedy that's so readily accessible. This series is must for fans of the above-mentioned comedians or anyone not afraid of adult language or humor. They flow freely in these acts, and that's why we're here.
Some of the jokes overlap between performers, but most of the voices here are distinct and original. There are some stand-out performances on this disc. I wasn't terribly familiar with performers Jim Jeffries and Artie Lange before this disc, and I'd love to hear more of them in the future. Another favorite is Andrew Dice Clay, questioning the mentality of anyone coming to see his show and of people in general.
On top of the comedic performances, another guest worth mentioning is Lemmy from Motörhead. In addition to writing and performing the theme song, he introduces then interacts with Jim at the start of every show.
There's a lot of entertainment value in Down and Dirty with Jim Norton - that is, as long as your comedic senses can handle the content.
