Unquestionably, Third Watch was one of the best dramas to hit television, and a lot of fans asked, "What on Earth were they thinking?" when the decision came down to cancel this show. Upon putting in the first disc of this box set into the DVD player, all the memories of how great this show was came flooding back.

Essentially, Third Watch is a three-pronged show following the police, firefighters, and paramedics. The pilot episode starts off hot, and within this one episode you quickly feel a strong bond to the characters. It establishes one of the main story arcs: rookie officer Ty Davis (Coby Bell), rookie paramedic Carlos Nieto (Anthony Ruivivar), and the relationship with their training officers, John "Sully" Sullivan (Skipp Sudduth) and Monte "Doc" Parker (Michael Beach). There is also the relationship between the gruff, intense police officer Maurice "Bosco" Boscorelli (Jason Wiles) and his partner, Faith Yokas (Molly Price).

What made this show so special was the right mix of tension-riddled action, emotional personal drama, and just the right amount of romance without it ever feeling like soap opera. On this end, you have the tumultuous relationship between paramedic Kim Zambrano (Kim Raver) and the father of her child, firefighter Jimmy Doherty (Eddie Cibriani). Throw into the mix that Kim's partner Roberto "Bobby" Caffey (Bobby Cannavale) has feelings for her.

And in between all the fire rescues, car chases, and accident scenes, there were briefer arcs sprinkled throughout the season that showcased some of the main characters - in particular, the way Doc handled the situation with his father, the way Kim tried to help a teenaged drug addict named Sunny, and how Bobby tried to help his brother, who was recently released from jail.

The first season of Third Watch is without a doubt a finely crafted show. Looking forward to having all the seasons released.
