After the release of the Disney hit show Hannah Montana: The Complete First Season on DVD, it's a bit difficult to go back to these small compilation DVDs. However, if one is a big fan of Hannah Montana - as most 7-10 year old girls are - then this is an offering of fairly recent shows that will keep kids satisfied. And with the big screen release of the Hannah Montana movie, kids will be clamoring for more Hannah to watch at home.
For those living in a cave, the premise of Hannah Montana is this. Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) is a regular girl by day but is also a pop star. With the use of a wig, she transforms herself from Miley to Hannah to perform, and her classmates and fans are none the wiser. If you can suspend your disbelief, it's a very cute show that uses Miley's real-life dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, as her TV dad, Robbie Ray. Also in on the secret are Miley's best friend, Lilly (Emily Osment), and her brother, Jackson (Jason Earles).
Hannah Montana: Keeping it Real contains four episodes of the show from August, September, and October of 2008. It also contains a Season Three bonus episode from November of 2008. The episodes included are
- "The Test of My Love" - Miley meets a rich boy and wants to make a good impression on his parents.
- "Don't Stop Til You Get the Phone" - Miley's dad won't buy her the fancy new Z-phone, so Lilly and Miley decide to become paparazzi and take an embarrassing picture of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in order to earn some money to buy the phone.
- "Yet Another Side of Me" - Miley meets another pop star, Isis, and decides that she needs to reinvent herself.
- "We're All on this Date Together" - To raise money for charity, Hannah goes on a date with both Rico and Johnny Collins (played by Corbin Bleu).
- "Ready, Set, Don't Drive" - Miley fails her driving test and tries to get her license in time for a party.
My nine-year-old daughter is a huge Hannah Montana fan, and really enjoyed this DVD. The one downside is that this group of shows is still shown pretty regularly on The Disney Channel, so it isn't something really special. There is a coupon for a free admission to the Hannah Montana movie included, which actually makes the price of the DVD fairly reasonable if you plan to use the coupon. Plus you (or more likely your child/ren) have something to watch over and over. Hannah Montana is a worthwhile purchase if you have Hannah fans in your home.
