The new So You Think You Can Dance: Get Fit DVD series combines dance instructional video with a fitness routine. While it might be a bit strenuous for a 40 year old such as myself to be trying some of the moves, the routines are still fun and, importantly, do cause you to break a sweat. Even I enjoyed it (but was glad no one was watching!)

There are two DVDs in the series: Cardio Funk, obviously geared toward a faster paced, aerobic workout, and Tone and Groove, which is geared toward toning "problem areas" such as burns, thighs, arms and (my personal problem area) abs. The DVDs feature six stars from the Fox reality series: Lauren, Courtney, Katee, Travis, Twitch and Dmitry. Each dancer leads a dance/fitness routine in their specialty: Lauren leads a hip hop routine, Travis leads a contemporary routine, et cetera. In their routines, the dancers teach a rather detailed routine step by step, gradually adding on to each process. A major strength of the series is that, as you practice each routine, you might not realize the sweat you are breaking: in short, you are having fun while working out.

My only criticism might be that the workouts and routines are obviously geared toward people in their late teens or early 20s (the age of every dancer in the series). Furthermore, some of the moves are a bit strenuous and maybe a bit over-the-top for older participants. Still, this is not a major flaw and a participant can still get a good workout, and learn a routine, even if he or she cannot keep up with every move.

Overall, I would recommend this series for anyone who enjoys dance, as well as anyone who feels the need to workout but is tired of more routine workouts such as push-ups or jumping jacks. Even a guy who can't dance, like me, had fun with these.
