With the live action Transformers movies hitting the big screen, a renewed interest in the original Hasbro Transformers cartoon has prompted them to release this 25th anniversary edition on DVD. This 3-disc set contains 16 episodes of the television series and some special features.
Two groups of robots with the ability to camouflage themselves as everyday "Earth" vehicles - the Autobots and the Decepticons - come to Earth to look for a new energy source. Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, discovers that he must protect the people of Earth from Megatron and the other Decepticons.
Even 25 years later, the cartoon battles are still entertaining and fun to watch. This is old-school animation - none of the 3-D computer-generated graphics of today. Some children unused to the nostalgic form of 80's cartoons may not like them as well as adults will, but those who were fans of the show when it was originally on television and those who love everything about Transformers will warm to this collection.
This collection also might be an excellent choice for younger children who are caught up in the marketing for the new Transformers movies but are still a bit young for the intensity of those PG-13 shows. The Transformers animated series is a fun show for both parents and children to watch together.
