I've seen some good shows in my day: The Rolling Stones at the Target Center, U2 at Cyclone Stadium in '92, The Grateful Dead and Sting at the Silver Bowl, Sesame Street at the Filmore, and Blues Clues at the 'Knick. I have never seen My Little Pony live before, but The World's Biggest Tea Party gives a pretty good idea of why I should have. All your favorite ponies are here; Rarity, Minty, Thistle Whistle, Rainbow Dash and, of course, Pinky Pie.
When mulling over what to make of their day, the ponies each comes up with her own idea. Some want to bake, some want to dress up, still others want to go for a balloon ride, pick flowers, decorate a room -
or have a tea party. When unable to decide what to settle on, they just do it all at a single grand event... The world's biggest, and most impromptu, tea party. Of course, rather than turning all their plans into reality with haste and efficiency, they sing about it an awful lot. My daughter finds it adorable and was enchanted. I was just nervous about them getting their act together in time for the party. I won't reveal how it went, or indeed if it even happened.
Parents will likely wonder where the performers put their heads in those outfits. The eyes and mouths are articulated, while the rear legs just kind of dangle. This is I found less distracting than would be the counterintuitive knee-bending from a pantomime horse using two performers.
The DVD includes five sing-along songs accompanied by animated ponies. These might be the most visited portions of the DVD depending on your child. If your young ones really love pastel ponies with rainbow-colored hair and aren't bothered by the fact that there are no males in their society, this is a wise purchase.
