Susan Sarandon fans, line up. The special edition of The Apprentice (Fleur Bleue) , released by Somerville House and Potterton Productions, features Sarandon as a young adult in the 1970's Montreal cultural scene.
Sarandon, an American model, meets a student separatist who falls in love with her free intellectual and sexual ideologies. The young student (Steve Fiset) is poor, quietly rebellious, and in love with his best friend's sister. The sister, unlike Sarandon, is not sexually free but intellectually a firm believer and activist in the separatist movement. The attraction of the physical and the lure of differing ideals pulls Friset away from his girlfriend and into Sarandon's world.
Falling into what he believes is love, Friset begins to commit small illegal acts to make money and impress Sarandon, hoping she will choose him as her only consort. The small acts become larger as his desperation grows. The ending is true to an unrequited love story, but with the unique twist of time and place.
Fans of Susan Sarandon who think they know her acting style need to watch this classic piece and discover a girl actress they don't know. This fantastic and tragically beautiful piece of writing, with actors that fit the bill, will have viewers lining up in the rental queue to see this one.
