Michael Cera and evil ex Jason Schwartzman in boss-level battle - *Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)*Not so long ago, in the mysterious land of Toronto, Canada... Scott Pilgrim was dating a high schooler.

Scott (Michael Cera) is 22, unemployed and in a band. His girlfriend, Knives Chau (Ellen Wong), quickly falls into worship with Scott, wowed by his band, Sex Bob-Omb. Scott, on the other hand, seems more enamored with the novelty of dating a Chinese Catholic high schooler than with the girl herself. Scott and gay roommate Wallace (Kieran Culkin) share a bed, but only out of necessity.

One night Scott dreams he's in a desert. A girl with lavender hair rollerblades through his dream. When sees her in real life at a library then meets her at a party, he's instantly obsessed with Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and tries to chat her up. This sets in motion a series of events that makes Scott's life quite, um... interesting. He gets an email from Matthew Patel (Satya Bhabha) indicating that they will soon do battle. A bored Scott throws it away, but it foreshadows the seven battles to come with Ramona's evil exes.

The phenomenal thing about Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is the way it's put together. With origins that lie in Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novel series, the film draws from the original content in creative ways. Sound effects either produce either jaggedy lines or actual words on screen as they would on the printed page. Phones ring visibly - doorbell rings, too - and we not only hear Sex Bob-Omb's music but see it. Scott Pilgrim draws as much from comics as it does from video games.

As battles with the evil exes commence, scores display onscreen and power-ups are indicated. As enemies fall in defeat, coins fall from the space they once occupied. Each evil ex is both more challenging than the last and offers a greater reward (suffice to say a verbal explanation does not do it justice). Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a kinetic, humorous, touching story that rocks more than any film I've seen recently. You NEED to see this. It is by far one of the most overlooked films in recent years.

Extra features include making-of featurettes, about a million photos from director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), Ellen Wong, Johnny Simmons, Mark Webber, and so many more. Feature commentaries by the creators, actors and technical support crew (including director of photography Bill Pope). This was created by people who really love film, and kudos to Universal for pulling out so many stops on the production of this Blu-ray. It looks fantastic, sounds great, and hey! There are a DVD and digital copy as well.
