The 2008 Oscars - 80th Annual Academy Awards nominees
The Coen Brothers' NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN ruled the Oscars with four statuettes - Directing, Best Picture, Supporting Actor and Adapted Screenplay. The Daniel Day-Lewis oil-rush vehicle THERE WILL BE BLOOD, which like NO COUNTRY had 8 nominations, picked up the Best Actor and Cinematography kudos. ATONEMENT and MICHAEL CLAYTON (each with 7 total nominations) tapped out with only one award each - ATONEMENT for Original Score and CLAYTON's Tilda Swinton for Supporting Actress. First-time JUNO scribe Diablo Cody took home Best Original Screenplay honors. In other top prizes, Brad Bird's RATATOUILLE won Best Animated Feature Film, LA VIE EN ROSE's Marion Cotillard took home Best Actress honors, Iraq war outrage piece TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE won Best Documentary, and the WWII Nazi money forgery drama THE COUNTERFEITERS won for Foreign Language Film.
